Spare Set of Gear Lets Libby Volunteers Fight Fires 365 Days a Year

  • Local Champion: Libby Volunteer Fire Department
  • Date Funded: January 23, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $27,500

When the 25 volunteers who make up the Libby Volunteer Fire Department conduct firefighting operations, their gear has to be specially cleaned and treated for potential asbestos contamination, as well as many other hazardous carcinogens. This can take several days. Trouble is, fires don’t wait for laundry day, so the LVFD needed a second set of gear while the other was being cleaned. A local resident brought this problem to LOR, who worked with the fire department to bring a solution to life. LOR’s funding helped support the purchase of additional National Fire Protection Agency-compliant equipment, so the community has a responsive fire department available for emergencies every day.
