Spay/Neuter Services and Vaccinations Help Cortez Humane Groups Keep Pace

  • Local Champion: Rachel's Forgotten Felines Rescue
  • Date Funded: September 28, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $7,800

Cortez’s growing feral cat population has stretched local caregivers thin, and the rising cost of spay/neuter services has made it difficult for residents and organizations to keep pace. But the founder of Rachel’s Forgotten Felines had a solution: partner with local veterinary providers to offer affordable spay/neuter and vaccination services for feral and a limited number of owned cats. To help get the collaboration up and running, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Rachel’s Forgotten Felines cover veterinary costs, purchase five drop traps and bait, and fund travel to and from appointments. Working alongside For Pets’ Sake and local veterinary partners, Rachel’s Forgotten Felines will now have the capacity to serve 65–100 cats, supporting the Cortez residents and caregivers who are addressing the challenge humanely and effectively.
