Service Dogs Improve Quality of Life for Cortez Veterans

  • Local Champion: Project Outreach for Veterans
  • Date Funded: October 6, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $10,000

Cortez veterans face high costs and wait times of over two years for service dogs through the Veterans Administration, leaving many without animals that can support their safety, independence, and daily well-being. A co-founder of Project Outreach for Veterans reached out to LOR with a solution: hire a local trainer to provide service dog training and certification. LOR’s funding will help Project Outreach for Veterans cover animal acquisition, basic training, service dog training and certification, boarding, and veterinary services. Working alongside local shelters and a local trainer, the program will give Cortez veterans companions that not only provide essential support but improve their quality of life.
