River Restoration Returns Questa’s Red River to Natural Flow

  • Local Champion: Trout Unlimited
  • Date Funded: March 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,548

Beaver dams along Questa’s Red River have created extensive marshlands, limiting fishing access and causing erosion near the town’s water treatment plant. When village officials noticed the growing problem, they connected with Trout Unlimited to find a solution that would balance beaver management with river health. LOR’s funding helped Trout Unlimited and the Village of Questa purchase specialized equipment, including beaver deceivers, pick axes, digging bars, and other tools, for community volunteers to safely modify the beaver structures. With the proper equipment and expert guidance, local volunteers are working together to restore the river’s natural flow, preventing further erosion while improving recreational access along the riverbanks.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Localogy.
