Training Equipment Enhances Law Enforcement Health in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Sheriff's Department
  • Date Funded: December 13, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $19,115

Law enforcement officers in Cortez face constant stress in the line of duty. Rarely do deputies in the understaffed Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office have the opportunity to manage that stress, exercising or otherwise taking care of themselves. It’s a real problem not only for officers, but for the community; roughly 75% of the time the Sheriff’s Office is short staffed due to deputies calling out sick, making for potentially dangerous situations. Staff in the Sheriff’s Office wanted to create an in-house workout facility so that officers could improve their mental and physical health and better cope with the challenges of the job. In need of support, they reached out to LOR. LOR’s funding will help the Sheriff’s Office purchase treadmills, exercise bikes, and other equipment, ensuring that law enforcement officers can stay healthy and perform better in the line of duty.
