A Cleaning Machine Doubles Cancer Screening Capacity in Weiser

  • Local Champion: Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation
  • Date Funded: March 17, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

Weiser residents face three-month wait times for essential cancer screenings and gastroenterology procedures because Weiser Memorial Hospital staff have to manually sterilize equipment, limiting the hospital to 12-15 appointments per week. Hospital staff recognized that manual sterilization was creating dangerous delays in cancer detection while exposing employees to hazardous cleaning agents, so one Weiser Memorial Hospital Foundation staff member reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Weiser Memorial Hospital purchase an automated sterilization machine that can process two sets of instruments simultaneously. This equipment will allow the hospital to cut wait times to under one month and eliminate staff exposure to dangerous cleaning chemicals.
