Safety Upgrades Complete Little League Field Improvements at City Park

  • Local Champion: City of Lander, Wyoming
  • Date Funded: March 17, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $5,886

In Lander, young children play T-ball, Little League, football, and ice skate on the City Park field, but unsafe features limit how fully they can engage in these sports—old cracked plastic fence toppers pinch small arms when kids reach for balls, and the unpadded wooden backstop poses injury risks for sliding players. After the city invested in dirt work, field leveling, and new bleachers to improve the facility, a volunteer coach who works with multiple youth sports programs noticed these remaining safety hazards. When he reached out to LOR, he explained that while the city’s improvements were substantial, fixing the fence and backstop would truly make the field safe for play. New fence protection will last years without the sun damage that causes cracking and pinching, while backstop padding will protect children sliding into home plate, sliding on ice, or running through the touchdown line. LOR’s funding will help purchase backstop padding, top rail safety covering, installation tools, and shipping, completing the transformation of this well-used community field where baseball continues gaining popularity among Lander youth.
