Trail Clearing Restores Libby Recreation Access

  • Local Champion: Cabinet Back Country Horsemen
  • Date Funded: May 20, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $20,000

Flooding and windstorms left most of Libby’s Cabinet Mountain trail system impassable, blocking access to backcountry recreation. Members of Cabinet Back Country Horsemen wanted to restore trail access quickly and unlock an existing state grant to help with the restoration effort, so they reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help Cabinet Back Country Horsemen hire a trail clearing contractor, reimburse volunteer expenses, and purchase a chainsaw and safety equipment for ongoing volunteer work. Restoring the trail system will support Libby’s outdoor recreation economy while giving residents and visitors safe access to the Cabinet Mountains during the peak summer season.
