Reflective Windbreakers Keep Cortez’s Homeless Residents Visible

  • Local Champion: A Cortez local
  • Date Funded: May 14, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

Cortez residents experiencing homelessness are exposed to the elements, putting their health and safety at risk. At the same time, they face significant injury risk crossing roads at night due to low visibility. As part of his government class, one Montezuma-Cortez High School senior came up with a solution to both problems. LOR’s funding helped him purchase and distribute 150 reflective windbreakers through local partners like the PiƱon Project and Hope’s Kitchen. The windbreakers provide protection from the elements while also making residents more visible in headlights, keeping some of Cortez’s most vulnerable community members safe.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
