Reduced Fee Summer Camps Give Cortez Kids Exposure to STEM Fun

  • Local Champion: The Powerhouse
  • Date Funded: May 11, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,100

Summer break presents a challenge for working families in Cortez. Students have limited access to full-day, full-week enrichment programs, and available options can be cost-prohibitive. Staff at the Powerhouse, an interactive science center in Durango, wanted to help solve this by opening up their week–long summer camps in Cortez for K through fourth graders to Cortez families on a sliding scale. They just needed some help covering the cost of the reduced fee science, technology, engineering, and mathematics camps in order to make them more affordable for families. LOR’s support will help provide as many as 72 Cortez children with an opportunity that they might otherwise not be able to afford.
