Libby’s Community Connections Van Brings Educational Aids and Resources to Families in Need

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Health Department
  • Date Funded: November 6, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $9,200

Libby, Montana’s high poverty rate means many families do not have the means to purchase educational aids for their children. A collaboration between Lincoln County Health Department, health centers, and community groups has enabled the purchase of a van to create a mobile unit to provide activities and supplies to children who may not have any other way to get them. The new Community Connections Van, will deliver WIC (Women, Infant and Child) services—including lactation support, maternal and newborn health education, immunizations, car seats, and safe sleep materials—along with the educational aids to area families. But the van wasn’t fully stocked with children’s activities, so a Libby local reached out to LOR for help purchasing the bring books, toys, and activities for kids. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of portable, developmentally appropriate play equipment and fuel costs.
