Equipment Upgrades Strengthen Experiential Learning at Questa School

  • Local Champion: Roots and Wings Community School
  • Date Funded: December 17, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $8,888

Students at Roots and Wings Community School regularly harvest food from their school’s food forest, but lack the proper equipment to safely clean, process, and preserve it for backpacking and camping trips. When teaching staff realized that relying on personal equipment limited both the program’s potential and its ability to meet food safety standards, they reached out to LOR for help obtaining essential kitchen equipment.

LOR’s funding will help the school purchase equipment, including, but not limited to, a dishwasher, refrigerator, dehydrators, and food processors (as well as a washer and dryer for cleaning camping gear). With these upgrades, students will gain hands-on experience in food preservation and outdoor meal preparation, reduce waste from the school’s food forest, and help create a training space for other educators interested in experiential learning programs.
