Downtown Signs Direct Residents to Cortez’s New Makerspace

  • Local Champion: Fundamental Needs, Inc.
  • Date Funded: August 18, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

Fundamental Needs is opening a new makerspace in downtown Cortez to provide residents with tools and training for entrepreneurship and creative projects. But many community members don’t know this resource exists nor where to find it. Staff at Fundamental Needs knew that visibility would be crucial for the makerspace’s success, so they reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Fundamental Needs purchase and install signs created by local artists to clearly identify the makerspace’s location on Main Street. The signs will help to turn the space into a new hub for economic development, ensuring that entrepreneurs, students, and creatives can access the equipment and training they need to build skills and launch business ideas.
