Chairs Turn a Cortez School’s Outdoor Spaces into Classrooms

  • Local Champion: Montezuma-Cortez School District RE-1
  • Date Funded: April 17, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $6,290

Montezuma-Cortez Middle School has one of the largest school gardens in the country, plus a beautiful orchard that provides shade for students. But the school lacks adequate seating to hold classes outdoors. After seeing teachers’ interest in outdoor learning, one Montezuma-Cortez Middle School teacher reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help Montezuma-Cortez Middle School purchase 180 chairs for the school’s six grade-level pods. The chairs will allow teachers to configure outdoor classes and boost student engagement, taking advantage of the school’s unique resources.
