A Playground Creates a Therapeutic Space for Cortez Families

  • Local Champion: Housing Authority of Montezuma County
  • Date Funded: February 10, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $3,037

Children receiving mental health services in Cortez are often confined to office settings for therapy, a problem since many kids are more comfortable and respond better in active, outdoor environments. One local therapist saw the benefits of outdoor therapy for her own clients utilizing a space owned by the Housing Authority of Montezuma County. So, after the two agreed to partner, the therapist reached out LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help the Housing Authority of Montezuma County buy and install a new playground for local therapists, nonprofits, community agencies, and families to use. The new outdoor equipment will give therapists a more effective environment for working with young clients, while also providing a safe, welcoming area for families during appointments and supervised visits.
