A New Range Keeps a Libby Community Meal Project Cooking

  • Local Champion: Christ Lutheran Church
  • Date Funded: June 21, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $7,498

Libby’s Christ Lutheran Church has been serving free community meals for more than two decades, providing hundreds of residents with warm home-cooked meals once a month. Yet, with roughly a third of residents living in poverty and 240 – 250 households consistently visiting the Libby Food Pantry, members of the church wanted expand their community meals to once per week. The problem was the church’s stove. Unreliable and leaking gas, the stove couldn’t be used consistently, so one volunteer with the church reached out to LOR for help. LOR’s funding will support the purchase and installation of a new propane range and hood for the Christ’s Kitchen community meal program. The equipment will become a community resource with other congregations using it to make additional meals and local groups using the stove for their own meetings and events.
