A New Classroom Expands Adult Education in Cortez

  • Local Champion: Durango Adult Education Center
  • Date Funded: May 27, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $8,148

The Cortez Adult Education Center offers GED and English language classes to adults seeking educational and career advancement, but its second-floor location with no elevator and limited parking creates barriers that prevent many from enrolling or attending consistently. After securing a new ADA-accessible location, staff with the Cortez Adult Education Center reached out to LOR with the idea for a new classroom. LOR’s funding will help the Cortez Adult Education Center purchase classroom tables and hire professional movers to relocate to the new, larger facility. The move and the facility’s improved classroom will remove longstanding barriers to learning, expand enrollment capacity, and create a welcoming environment for Cortez adults pursuing education and career opportunities.
