A Mobile Food Truck Brings Meals and Mentorship to Cortez Youth

  • Local Champion: God's DOGS
  • Date Funded: August 12, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $28,200

Many Cortez youth struggle with hunger but cannot easily access traditional soup kitchens. At the same time, many of these same youth also lack positive adult role models in their lives. The founders of God’s DOGS decided to solve both problems by taking free meals to the local skatepark and spending time with the young adults there. Seeing the positive reactions, they reached out to LOR with an idea to expand their outreach. LOR’s funding will help God’s DOGS purchase a used food truck to create a mobile soup kitchen that can travel directly to locations where young people gather. The food truck will allow the nonprofit to serve healthy meals while building relationships with Cortez youth through conversation and mentorship, meeting both their nutritional and emotional needs.
