Workshop Series Builds Life Skills for Monte Vista Women and Girls

  • Local Champion: A Monte Vista Local
  • Date Funded: April 30, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $16,097

Women and girls in Monte Vista currently have limited free, local opportunities to build practical life skills, confidence, and independence. In response to community feedback highlighting the need for hands-on learning in areas such as car maintenance, basic home repair, cooking, and financial literacy, two local residents developed a workshop series grounded in those needs. With support from LOR funding, the project covers supplies, venue rental fees, presenter stipends, and refreshments for a 10-month Empowering Women Learning Series. The series features 19 free, hands-on workshops on topics including car care, outdoor cooking, home winterization, basic plumbing, caregiving for older adults, and financial planning. Each session accommodates up to 15 participants. The program will help Monte Vista women and girls ages 15 and older strengthen everyday problem-solving skills, reduce household expenses, increase self-sufficiency, and build meaningful community connections.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Optimystics Citizens Action Network
