The Rx to Save Libby’s Medical Supply Loan Closet? A Little More Elbow Room

  • Local Champion: Senior Citizens of Lincoln County
  • Date Funded: October 17, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $9,555

Libby’s Durable Medical Equipment Loan Closet provides more than 300 locals with the wheelchairs, walkers, lifts, ramps, shower benches, and more that they need to contend with debilitating injury and illness, all at no cost. Doctors from as far away as Kalispell regularly refer patients to the closet, which has been generously stocked by donations—so much so in fact, that the space at the Senior Center where the equipment is housed is no longer large enough to house all the gear. In order to continue the program, the Senior Center needed a new space to accommodate the growing collection of equipment. The Senior Citizens of Lincoln County came up with a solution: a shed that can serve as the permanent home for the menagerie of vital medical equipment. A volunteer with the group reached out to LOR with the idea, and the foundation’s funding will support the purchase of the shed.

Impact

The shed was set up on December 4, 2022 at the Senior Center and they have moved the entire inventory into it with a little room to spare. Initial feedback from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
