Specialized Equipment Creates Safer Learning Spaces for Monte Vista Students

Students with disabilities in Monte Vista have lacked access to the specialized equipment needed to receive safe, effective, and equitable special education services close to home—limiting opportunities to develop physical, social-emotional, sensory, and communication skills. Recognizing this gap, a local volunteer and community member reached out to LOR with a solution: equip the new Monte Vista facility operated by SLV BOCES, the regional organization that provides specialized educational services, with an adjustable basketball hoop and protective wall padding for quiet rooms. The adjustable hoop will accommodate students of varying ages, heights, and abilities, while the wall padding will make quiet rooms safer for sensory and emotional regulation. LOR’s funding will help SLV BOCES purchase and install these items, creating accessible spaces where students can build physical coordination, regulate their emotions, and participate more fully in learning from day one.
