Spanish Books Open New Opportunities for Weiser Students

  • Local Champion: Weiser School District 431
  • Date Funded: September 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $2,625

Weiser School District 431 has very few, if any, books for Spanish-speaking and bilingual students, a problem for both native Spanish speakers and students learning Spanish as a second language. One school staff member wanted address this gap, so she collaborated with the district’s librarians on a plan to expand their collections and engage Spanish-speaking students. In need of help launching the project, she reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help Weiser School District 431 purchase approximately 115 Spanish-language books for the district’s school libraries, giving Spanish-speaking students more opportunities to learn and practice reading while fostering a greater sense of belonging in their school community.
