Smith Machines Teach Safe Weight Lifting Techniques to Lander Middle Schoolers

In Lander, middle school students are enthusiastic about weight lifting and eager to participate in school sports for the first time. But current equipment makes it difficult to maintain proper form even with two spotters per lifter, and the cable machines can teach bad habits that can last into adulthood. When a PE teacher recognized that students needed better tools to learn correct technique from the start, he reached out to LOR with a solution: Smith machines with vertical tracks that ensure proper bar alignment with the spine during every lift. These machines allow students to safely perform squats, bench presses, and deadlifts while their bodies learn what correct form feels like, building muscle memory that will serve them whether they continue to high school sports or adult fitness. The equipment will be available to all middle school students during PE classes, sports team conditioning sessions, and even homeschooled students who play school sports. LOR’s funding will help purchase three Smith machines with weight plate sets, ensuring every Lander middle schooler can develop safe lifting habits that minimize injury risk.
