Recording Lab Gives Lander Residents Free Access to Audio Production Equipment

  • Local Champion: Project Carpe Diem
  • Date Funded: December 9, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $2,334

In Lander, many residents—particularly teenagers—are interested in learning sound and recording skills, but purchasing the necessary equipment is cost-prohibitive for most families. When the Learning Resources Library director heard multiple community members ask if she had access to recording technology for their teens, she reached out to LOR with a plan to create a free community recording studio. The Sound and Recording Learning Lab will provide basic professional equipment including microphones, headphones, audio interfaces, and acoustic foam, allowing residents of all ages to learn audio production skills while creating content for the broader community. Users will be able to produce audiobooks of public domain works, record music and songs, and develop other audio projects that are currently difficult to access locally. Starting with essential equipment, the lab will grow over time as specific community needs emerge, creating a sustainable resource for skill-building and creative production. LOR’s funding will help purchase recording equipment, cables, acoustic treatment, storage solutions, and accessories, establishing Lander’s first community recording studio where residents can develop valuable technical skills at no cost.
