Police Equipment Launches a Volunteer Reserve Program in Libby

  • Local Champion: City of Libby
  • Date Funded: September 17, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $27,982

The Libby Police Department is rebuilding its staff after losing a number of officers a few years ago, leaving the community with limited coverage and officers working alone on shifts. Many residents have wanted to volunteer to help with public safety, so the department has decided to launch a reserve program that would give community members a way to serve and provide backup for officers. The problem is the duty gear volunteers must buy is thousands of dollars, creating a financial barrier that limits participation. After coming up with a solution, one officer reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Police Department purchase duty belts, body armor, radios, and other essential equipment that trained volunteers can use during their shifts. The new equipment will allow the department to create a robust reserve program that will improve officer and public safety and allow residents to serve their community.
