Photography Equipment Strengthens Journalism Program at Taos Middle School

  • Local Champion: Taos Municipal Schools
  • Date Funded: June 12, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $3,618

Students enrolled in the journalism and yearbook elective at Taos Middle School have historically lacked the basic photography and media equipment needed to document school events, student life, and campus activities. Without these tools, students have limited opportunities to develop hands-on skills in journalism, photography, storytelling, and digital media, which support creative learning and engagement in the program. To address this equipment gap, a community member connected LOR’s Taos community officer with the journalism instructor at Taos Middle School, who identified a solution: purchase foundational photography and media equipment to enable students to consistently document school events and produce yearbook content. With support from LOR, Taos Middle School will purchase five Canon EOS Rebel DSLR camera kits, including lenses, tripods, protective cases, memory cards, and media transfer equipment. This will allow multiple students to participate simultaneously, expanding access and collaboration within the program and supporting sustained student engagement throughout the academic year.
