Libby Gives Locals a Safe Place to Swim With a Flow-Through Community Pond

While Libby has many of rivers and lakes nearby, the town lacks a safe and controlled swimming area that is accessible to all residents. A municipal pool could offer one potential solution to this problem, but the operating and maintenance cost of a standard outdoor pool exceeds Libby’s taxpayer limits. So members of the Libby Parks District came up with a creative alternative: create a natural, flow-through swimming pond in town with water from Libby Creek that outflows to an existing fishing pond. The swimming pond will have a sandy-bottomed shallow area that leads to a deeper swimming center, and it will be free to Libby residents to use. LOR’s funding will help pay for the engineering services needed to complete the project.
