Laptops Help Taos Students Explore Careers in Law and Public Safety

  • Local Champion: 8th Judicial District Attorneys Offic
  • Date Funded: September 3, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $15,016

The Junior DA Program, offered through Taos High School’s CEO Fridays, provides students with up-close exposure to careers in law, public safety, and the judicial system. After a successful first-year pilot, demand quickly outpaced the program’s capacity. Students eager to participate faced a key barrier: security requirements at the DA’s Office prohibit the use of personal devices, and existing computers are reserved for staff, leaving students without the technology needed to fully engage in the program.

A Taos native and Taos High School graduate who now serves his home community as Eighth Judicial District Attorney, approached LOR with a solution: purchase laptops and a charging station to provide students with secure, dedicated devices during their Friday sessions. LOR’s funding helped the DA’s Office purchase the equipment, allowing more Taos students to participate in this unique, hands-on experience and explore potential career paths in the judicial system.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Downtown Taos.
