Lander Students Combat Food Insecurity With Education—and Soup Bowls

  • Local Champion: Fremont County School District #1
  • Date Funded: August 18, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $6,442

Knowing food insecurity is one thing; understanding what it means—and how you can help—is another. And it’s precisely the problem a teacher at Lander’s Baldwin Creek Elementary School hoped to solve with her idea for integrating art with understanding about food insecurity. The project involves having guest speakers join students to teach them about food insecurity in Fremont County—and how they can help address it. After that, students will each create a bowl that will be donated to the Lander Food Bank for a soup bowl fundraiser. LOR’s support will help pay for the supplies needed to create and decorate the ceramic bowls.
