Expanded 4-H Equipment Builds Hands-On Learning Opportunities in Monte Vista

  • Local Champion: SLV Area Colorado State University Extension
  • Date Funded: June 25, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,400

As enrollment in the Monte Vista 4-H program continues to grow, the existing equipment is no longer sufficient to support hands-on learning in sewing, welding, and animal training. After observing participation outpacing available resources, an area ppecialist for 4-H Youth Development at the San Luis Valley Area CSU Extension Office developed a solution. LOR’s funding enabled the CSU San Luis Valley Extension Office to purchase four sewing machines and starter supplies, four multi-process welders andĀ starter supplies, dog agility equipment, and a 20-foot on-site storage container to organize and protect the equipment. These investments expand access to project areas that develop practical skills in the trades, animal science, and entrepreneurship, equipping Monte Vista youth with the tools to buildĀ confidence, responsibility, and career readiness through hands-on 4-H programming.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Optimystics Citizens Action Network.
