Dressing to Impress: A Classy Lending Closet Inspires Confidence for Cortez Choir and Band Students

  • Local Champion: A Cortez student
  • Date Funded: January 12, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $9,506

Sometimes there’s just no replacement for feeling dapper. That was the problem for choir and concert band students at Montezuma-Cortez High School. Some students could buy their own dresses or suits for performances, but many choir and band members couldn’t. The lack of professional concert attire was particularly noticeable as Montezuma-Cortez students earned regional, statewide, and national honors. One student, who had herself been unable to buy a concert outfit, decided to put an end to the problem. She wanted to create a lending closet where the school’s students could check out dresses and tuxedos for performances. LOR’s funding went toward the purchase of 71 dresses and 51 tuxedos, so that Montezuma-Cortez’s choir and band students can feel the confidence and pride that comes with looking dapper.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
