Dedicated Youth Classroom Expands Art Education at Lander Art Center

  • Local Champion: Lander Art Center
  • Date Funded: May 1, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $7,777

In Lander, youth have to compete with adults for art classroom space and time as demand for classes continues to increase at the Art Center. When board members working to expand programming to meet community needs found a solution to this tricky space problem, they reached out to LOR for support. A mobile classroom with folding tables and storage on wheels will allow parents and kids to take classes simultaneously—with materials put away and rolled out of sight at the end of each session so residents can still enjoy the gallery space. The Lander Art Center will redo flooring and build in banquette seating to support this new configuration. iPad minis will serve dual purposes: managing logistics through attendance tracking, class management, parent communication, and real-time coordination across classes, while also enabling new digital art and photography offerings for youth. The convertible space creates opportunities to expand educational programming while maintaining the gallery’s aesthetic and function. LOR’s funding will help purchase folding tables, adjustable stools, storage cabinets on wheels, and iPad minis with Apple Pencils, creating a fully equipped youth classroom that doesn’t compromise the Art Center’s other uses.
