Cortez Residents Fill a Gaping Need for Summer Activities for Kids

  • Local Champion: Cortez community members
  • Date Funded: April 29, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $8,200

Few opportunities exist in Cortez to introduce healthy activities to young people, so many children miss out on early introductions to myriad physical and performing arts activities. To help solve this problem, in the spring of 2022, concerned community residents worked with the Cortez Parks and Recreation Department to create a slate of low-cost summer offerings at the centrally-located Cortez Rec Center and Parque de Vida for children as young as three. LOR’s funding helped support the purchase of equipment for a range of classes—everything from tap dance to circuit training, lacrosse, and more—as well as marketing materials and training to help get the pilot program off the ground.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation
