Bluetooth Equipment Improves Firefighter Communication in Libby

  • Local Champion: Libby Volunteer Fire Department
  • Date Funded: November 21, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,675

Libby’s volunteer firefighters depend on clear radio communication to coordinate rescue efforts and call for help during emergencies, but the department’s eight-year-old system has degraded audio clarity. Without reliable communication between incident command and firefighters inside burning buildings, seconds are lost and lives are put at risk. One volunteer with the Libby Volunteer Fire Department had a solution, so he reached out to LOR for support. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Volunteer Fire Department purchase Bluetooth equipment that integrates with their current radio system. The upgraded technology will allow firefighters to hear commands clearly in dangerous environments, improving safety for both responders and community members during emergencies.
