Affordable Youth Basketball League Encourages Girls Participation in Sports

  • Local Champion: Taos Youth Basketball League
  • Date Funded: November 9, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $8,500

Taos has limited opportunities for girls to participate in fundamental athletic skill-building, and the existing options are too expensive for many families in the area to access. Hoping to solve this problem, a Taos resident contacted LOR for help launching an all-girls youth basketball league. The league will be staffed by girls from Taos’ middle school and high school basketball teams who will volunteer to teach fundamentals and assist with coaching. LOR’s support will fund skill clinics and officiating and provide the necessary equipment to get the league off the ground.
