A New Vehicle Improves Volunteer Search and Rescue Response in Libby

  • Local Champion: David Thompson Search and Rescue
  • Date Funded: November 13, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $17,900

When Libby residents get lost or injured in the surrounding wilderness, the many miles of rough terrain make it difficult for rescue volunteers to quickly locate, access, and evacuate them safely. Volunteers with David Thompson Search and Rescue (DTSAR) are well aware of this issue, as they respond to dozens of calls each year and commonly spend multiple days looking for people lost in the woods. To address the problem, one volunteer reached out to the LOR Foundation, and with LOR’s help DTSAR will purchase an all-terrain vehicle that will transport multiple volunteer responders and allow them to quickly locate and evacuate lost or injured parties.
