A New Kitchen Helps Cortez Survivors of Domestic Violence Build New Futures

  • Local Champion: Renew, Inc
  • Date Funded: September 5, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $18,200

Renew’s safe house provides crisis shelter for Cortez-area individuals and families who are experiencing domestic violence and need a safe, confidential place to begin healing while developing a plan for moving forward. The safe house has one significant gap, though: It doesn’t have a kitchen laid out to allow residents to learn about and create healthy meals. Solving this challenge is as simple as renovating the kitchen into a space that allows residents to have healthy meal classes and practice preparing meals for each other, so when they move out of the transitional housing they are able to make healthy meals on a budget. LOR’s funding will help pay for construction services and supplies.
