Landscaping Equipment Helps Libby Residents Transition into Housing

  • Local Champion: Gathering Place of Libby Inc
  • Date Funded: July 30, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $9,750

For residents of The Gathering Place—a men’s transitional shelter in Libby—rebuilding a stable life often means acquiring practical skills, including the basic yard and home maintenance knowledge that most landlords expect of tenants. Without the tools to care for the shelter’s outdoor space, residents miss a hands-on opportunity to build the confidence and competency that support long-term housing stability. When the director of The Gathering Place recognized the potential, he reached out to LOR with an idea. LOR’s funding will help The Gathering Place purchase lawn mowers, a snow blower, weed trimmers, a pressure washer, a chain saw, and other maintenance supplies and safety gear. Residents will be trained on safe equipment use and take on rotating maintenance responsibilities, while also providing free lawn care to elderly and low-income community members—building practical skills, fulfilling community service requirements, and strengthening their sense of purpose and connection as they prepare to transition into housing of their own.
