A Local Pet Food Pantry Helps Cortez Families Stay Intact

In 2022, Colorado Pet Pantry helped nearly 36,000 Colorado families feed their pets and reduce their monthly pet food expenses. That number only continues to grow as more families deal with health crises, inflation, and financial uncertainty. The need for pet food is an emerging issue in the Cortez area, with many families struggling to consistently feed their pets. Local Colorado Pet Pantry staff set out to solve the problem with the help of the Good Samaritan Center Good Sam’s Food Pantry. Together the groups came up with a much-needed solution: distribute pet food during local food pantry distribution days. LOR’s funding will help the groups transport donated food from Denver to Cortez and rent a warehouse to store the food. Once up and running, Colorado Pet Pantry expects to serve roughly 1,200 families in the Cortez area by the end of 2024, ensuring no person or family has to make the wrenching decision to relinquish their beloved pet.
