Electrical Upgrades Complete Youth Workforce Campus in Taos

  • Local Champion: Rocky Mountain Youth Corps
  • Date Funded: March 20, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $28,937

Taos youth and community organizations have long needed a dedicated space for workforce training, leadership development, meetings, and collaborative projects. A 5,000-square-foot youth workforce and community training campus was currently under construction to meet this need, but additional electrical infrastructure was required to comply with updated building codes and ensure the facility could open and operate as a long-term, affordable community resource.

To complete this critical infrastructure, a staff member at Rocky Mountain Youth Corps developed a solution and reached out to LOR: install electrical wiring and occupancy-based control systems that meet current code requirements while reducing long-term operating costs through energy-efficient lighting and power management.

With LOR’s support, Rocky Mountain Youth Corps will purchase materials and hire electricians to install wiring, occupancy sensors, and automated lighting controls in the new campus. These upgrades will enable the facility to pass inspection and open by November 2026.

Once complete, the campus will serve as a shared hub for youth-serving organizations, including Taos Alive, Healthy Futures Youth Coalition, TK1, Vista Grande High School, and Taos Academy, as well as conservation partners such as the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. By reducing electricity use by up to 30%, the occupancy-based systems will help ensure the facility remains affordable to operate for years to come.
