Concession Stands Create Fundraising Opportunities for Youth Sports at City Park

  • Local Champion: City of Lander, Wyoming
  • Date Funded: March 20, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $24,000

In Lander, youth sports teams struggle to fundraise for their activities, forcing organizations to raise participation fees despite their commitment to keeping costs low so more kids can play. One baseball mom has been the only parent selling concessions to raise funds, but she operates from a card table in the parking lot because the old concession stand is in disrepair, filled with storage equipment, and located behind the stands where volunteers can’t watch games. When this persistent fundraiser reached out to LOR about finding a lasting solution for all teams using City Park fields, she connected with city personnel who were already planning improvements and developed a plan. Three repurposed buildings will serve as proper concession stands positioned next to the fields where parent volunteers can work in enclosed, clean spaces while still watching games through windows. With at least two baseball leagues, Little League, Junior Football League, and special events like Baseball Rodeo all using these fields, the stands will dramatically expand fundraising opportunities while also providing storage space and beginning a multi-step process to secure the parking lot that currently cuts dangerously through the park. LOR’s funding will help purchase three skid structures plus materials for shelving, stairs, and skirting.
