A Home Maintenance Program Keeps Cortez Seniors in Their Homes

  • Local Champion: Montezuma County Department of Social Services
  • Date Funded: September 23, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $25,000

Many Cortez seniors struggle to maintain their homes, facing challenges that range from basic yard work to critical safety repairs. Without help, these maintenance issues can force older residents to leave their homes prematurely. One staff member with Montezuma County Senior Services wanted to address this growing need, so she reached out to LOR with a plan to revive a once-successful home repair program. LOR’s funding will help the Montezuma County Department of Social Services launch a service that connects seniors with qualified local contractors who can handle everything from routine care like snow removal and chimney cleaning to installing wheelchair ramps and other safety equipment. The program aims to help at least 40 seniors with repairs and maintenance, ensuring they can age safely and comfortably in their own homes.
