Weekly Activity Nights Rekindle Bonds for Libby’s Seniors

  • Local Champion: Senior Citizens of Lincoln County
  • Date Funded: December 8, 2023
  • Grant Amount: $5,000

America’s loneliness epidemic is ubiquitous, but if there’s one group that feels the effects most it’s arguably the rural elderly. Libby’s Senior Citizens Center receives roughly 30 calls each month from elderly residents who are desperate to leave their homes and spend time with their friends and peers. With a shoestring budget, organizing game nights or other events is often out of the question for the senior center. Even if the center could, many elderly residents are unable to transport themselves. Staff with Senior Citizens of Lincoln County, the group that runs the center, wanted to create weekly activity nights for Libby’s seniors. They found volunteers willing to teach activities and a local nonprofit willing to offer discounted rides. Still, they needed additional help getting the program off the ground, so they contacted LOR. LOR’s funding will support the purchase of games, craft supplies, and dozens of travel vouchers, helping Libby’s seniors rekindle the spark of companionship.
