Subsidized Course Fees Create Equitable Opportunities for Hands-on Learning in Taos

  • Local Champion: Taos High School
  • Date Funded: September 30, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $800

In 2023, LOR supported the launch of a Project Bike Tech course at Taos High School, enabling students to develop valuable technical, mechanical, and entrepreneurial skill sets. Interest in this hands-on class has remained extremely high, but the educator overseeing it became aware that many interested students who could benefit from the class were not enrolling as they could not afford the $50 course fee. So he reached out to LOR with a solution: subsidize the cost of students’ participation in the Project Bike Tech class to eliminate financial barriers to enrollment.

LOR’s support will underwrite the course costs for 16 students during the 2024-2025 school year, with other businesses and organizations tagged to cover the costs of future classes.
