Sports Fields Score Big for Cortez Youth

  • Local Champion: Cortez Youth Panthers Football
  • Date Funded: August 6, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $19,100

Youth on Cortez’s south side have limited access to playing fields. Currently, the local football league practices on shared soccer fields at Parque de Vida, but the space does a poor job of accommodating the many different teams that use the field. Volunteers with the Cortez Panthers Youth Football League saw an opportunity to develop the city’s former high school site into dedicated youth sports fields, so they came up with a plan to make it happen. LOR’s funding helped purchase storage containers, bleachers, and temporary fencing to transform the city-owned vacant lot into a proper multi-use sports facility. The equipment will give the football league its first dedicated home field while creating space for soccer, baseball, softball, and community recreation more broadly.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Onward! A Legacy Foundation.
