Air Filters Create a Refuge for Libby Seniors During Wildfire Season

  • Local Champion: Senior Citizens of Lincoln County
  • Date Funded: August 12, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $1,092

During wildfire season, many Libby seniors have no safe refuge from hazardous smoke—most live in homes without air filtration, resulting in prolonged exposure to harmful particulates. To better protect residents, Libby’s senior center has begun serving as a daytime refuge during heavy, smoke-filled days, but the facility still lacks the filtration residents need. One staff member with Senior Citizens of Lincoln County, which operates the senior center, reached out to LOR with a solution. LOR’s funding will help the Libby Senior Center purchase two air purifiers and establish an ongoing filter replacement and maintenance schedule ahead of future smoke seasons. The investment will protect the health and well-being of Libby’s vulnerable seniors wildfire season after wildfire season.
