Pet and Engagement Supplies Help Bring Fresh Hope to Libby’s Animal Shelter

  • Local Champion: Lincoln County Shelter Friends
  • Date Funded: July 30, 2025
  • Grant Amount: $9,935

Lincoln County’s animal shelter has struggled since the county and the shelter’s previous nonprofit operator separated in 2024. The split left Libby’s shelter animals without adequate care and the community without reliable animal control services. After launching Lincoln County Shelter Friends, a group of dedicated volunteers took over the shelter’s operations. But they still lacked the necessary staff and resources to ensure long-term support for the shelter’s mission. Their solution? Launch a new nonprofit and community awareness campaign to grow public support for the shelter. LOR’s funding helped Lincoln County Shelter Friends purchase essential equipment, including crates, beds, and food, as well as event and promotional supplies to engage the community. In addition to providing consistent care for Libby’s shelter animals, Lincoln County Shelter Friends will grow community adoption and education events, ensuring Lincoln County has sustainable animal shelter services for years to come.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Kootenai Country Montana.
