One Mom’s Advocacy Helps Libby Families Struggling with Addiction and Mental Health

  • Local Champion: A Libby local
  • Date Funded: April 25, 2024
  • Grant Amount: $688

Many Libby youth struggle with substance use and mental health, but with stigma and shame it can be difficult for them to confide in their parents and turn to their families for support. One Libby mom experienced those challenges firsthand, losing her son to suicide and addiction. Her own tragedy led the mom to become a community advocate for fostering family connections and relationships. LOR’s funding helped her purchase event supplies and launch an awareness campaign to share information about substance use and mental health, providing Libby families with the support they need to talk face to face.

This project was fiscally sponsored by Kootenai Country Montana.
