Libby’s VFW Post Restores a Community Flag Program

  • Local Champion: VFW Post 1548
  • Date Funded: June 25, 2026
  • Grant Amount: $3,829

For many years, Libby’s VFW Post 1548 displayed American flags along major roads each Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day—a tradition that gave the whole community a visible way to honor military service and national pride. But over time, the flags faded, tore, and became unusable, and the program lapsed. One post member wanted to bring the community tradition back, so he came up with a solution. LOR’s funding helped the Libby VFW Post purchase 200 U.S. flags, 10 Montana State flags, 5 POW/MIA flags, and branch-specific service flags for the U.S. Marines, Air Force, Navy, Army, and Coast Guard. The revived flag program will return a meaningful community tradition to Libby while recognizing and celebrating those who served.

This project is fiscally sponsored by Libby Area Community Advancement.
