New Fund Helps Lander Organizations Purchase Art for Community Events

  • Local Champion: An individual
  • Date Funded: March 21, 2022
  • Grant Amount: $10,500

Many Lander artists are asked to donate their work for community nonprofit fundraisers—and while they often oblige, they face a loss of potential income when they give their work away for free. To help address this problem, a Lander local brought forward a potential solution: create a pool of funds for purchasing local art for community fundraisers. The goal would be to pay local artists for their work at a slightly discounted rate rather than asking for a donation. Then, with sales from event proceeds, organizations can purchase more art for the future. More than a dozen local artists and organizations expressed interested in the idea, and with the LOR Foundation’s help it became a reality. A grant from LOR helped artists establish the fund, which is now being used to acquire artwork from local creators.
